The Oratory of St. Philip Neri

Emblem of the Oratory of
St. Philip Neri
The Oratory of St. Philip Neri, referred to as the Oratorians, is a society of Catholic priest who live together and are bound by the bond of charity.  This society was founded by St. Philip Neri in Rome in 1575 and today it has spread to over 70 oratorians and 500 priests.  The members are not bound by vows or an answerable authority, they have committed themselves to an independent and self governing local community. In order to start an oratory, there needs to me a minimum of 4 total members. Two of these members need to be ordained, in order for the oratory to be founded.  Daily life of an oratorian includes praying together a minimum of twice a day, having one communal meal, silent meditation, celebrating the Eucharist, and involvement in various ministries.
